Washing Soda Recipe

For my DIY Liquid Laundry Soap you need 3/4 cup of washing soda, also called washing ash. Other sites that have shared the recipe say washing ash is available at the grocery store. I've never found it around here.

Simple chemistry lesson - baking soda + heat = washing soda. The heat adds carbon, changing the baking soda's properties, color, and texture.

Washing Soda Recipe
- 3/4 cup baking soda
- baking sheet
- oven

Preheat oven to 400℉. Spread baking soda on a dry cookie sheet. Bake at 400℉ for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. It has turned into washing soda when it's off-white and a courser texture.

Now it's ready to be added to your DIY Liquid Laundry Soap. Extra can be stored indefinitely in an airtight container away from the light.

Do not keep by the baking soda or other cooking ingredients. Washing soda is not edible. Do not ingest.
