DIY Liquid Laundry Soap

When we were cutting back on our monthly budget, I found a liquid laundry detergent recipe. A lot of diy laundry soap recipes require you to spend an hour grating soap - not happening here! The following recipe is the one we've been using for over two years. It's fast to make and cheap. Why spend $10+ a month on laundry detergent when you can spend $10 once for ingredients that will make laundry soap for 3-4 months?

DIY Liquid Laundry Soap

- 3/4 cup Borax
- 3/4 cups Washing Soda / Washing Ash
- 3/4 cup Liquid Dish Soap (we use Ajax or Dawn)
- Essential Oils, 20 drops of whatever you prefer
- Hot Tap Water
- 1 gallon container with lid

Pour borax and washing soda into the container. Add hot water to more than cover the borax and soda. Shake to dissolve. Add liquid dish soap, essential oil, and hot water until half full. Shake and then leave sitting without the lid on to let the bubbles dissipate. Slowly add hot water till full.

To use: shake well. Add 1/4 cup per load.

I highly recommend adding 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the load as well. The vinegar insures no soap scum is left on the clothes. Many people claim it's an all natural fabric softener, but it really just removes all soap scum so clothes don't become rough over time. It doesn't leave a scent at all.
